Pantai Timur Finale Review

A superb header by Mathias Conti and a brave performance by Khairul Azhan helped Pahang to achieve Malaysia Cup dream coming out 1-0 winners over Kelantan at the Shah Alam Stadium. The win ends a 21 year Malaysia Cup drought.

No question that Pahang were the dominate team over the course of the game. Their organisation strangled Kelantan's pattern of play. Going into the game, all the talk was of how Kelantan, without Obinna would cope.

Pahang's attack targeted Kelantan's weakness in the centre of defense and exposed it they have.

The only goal came from the head of Argentine Mathias Conti. The Striker made the most of Azamuddin Akil's superb run and cross to finish quite superbly.

Here's seven things we've learnt from Pahang vs Kelantan

1. Without Obinna, Pahang took advantage.

And they did took it well. Kelantan's central defenders looked disjointed and unorganised. Early on in the game, Khairul Fahmi did try to pull his defenders together however it wasn't enough. Both defenders rode their luck until the decisive goal that sealed the game.

2. Dollah Salleh's tactical change at half-time piled on more pressure

Introduction of Fauzi Roslan in the start of second half, meant that Pahang changed to a 4-4-2. With Azamuddin Akil who played as a second striker in the first half move to a right wing position. It work as they were overrunning Kelantan's right. In hindsight got the winner.

3. Amirul Hadi proved his worth at midfield.

There is little doubt that his move to Pahang revived his career and enjoying the best form of his life. With the faith of his head coach, the former Malaysian international could be expecting a recall after his performances this calendar year.

4. Bojan Hoddak didn't have a plan B.

There's much evidence that the head coach is too over reliant of his starting players. He doesn't really utilize his squad very well. Made substitutions really late into the game when the team needed a lift to inspire them to carry on. Early introduction of Faiz Subri and Fakri Saarni early in the 2nd half could have given them another outlet to exploit.

5. Fakri Saarni is Kelantan's long term future.

Many people will give me a lot of stick for this. I'm sticking with it. I've been such a critic of the player. Even when he signed for Kelantan mid-season I was shock. However he has improved a lot physically, technically and mentally. All he needs are the goals to boost his confidences.  His introduction during the second half helped the teams efforts to get the equalizer. Combining well with Indra Putra, Dickson and Norfarhan.

6. Khairul Azhan repays Dollah Salleh's faith by putting a brave performance.

When Kelantan did looked threatening, Khairul Azhan was there to kept the clean sheet for Pahang. He did nothing wrong whatsoever over the 90 minutes. Made a special stop in the heart of the Pahang fans when he denied Norfarhan in the dying moments of the game.

7. Fans were superb.

Despite the downpour, fans from the east coast were high in spirit and voice at Shah Alam. Even us who were watching from the screens felt the intensity of the game.

Conclusion.

So Pahang emerge as victors of this year's Malaysia Cup. The traditional season curtain closer could have well set the tone for next year's domestic season. With the attitude of "We can win this." resonates to every club in the country.

This is Pantai Timur! Malaysia Cup Final Preview.

Malaysia Cup Final Preview by Khalilul.

The magic of Malaysia Cup will be in full flow when Kelantan meets Pahang on Sunday night at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Fence sitters may be hoping for an explosive affair between the two teams from the east coast.

The two sides have face each other four times during this calendar year. Twice in the league and twice in the group stages of the Malaysia Cup. Kelantan came out on top twice at Kota Bharu. As Pahang were held at Darul Makmur twice.

This will be The Red Warriors fourth Malaysia Cup Final appearance in the space of five years. While Pahang make their much awaited return to the grand stage of Domestic cup football. Their final appearance was back in 1997. They'll certainly be looking to make it a special one.

Here is a complete preview of the match with latest team news and probable starting lineups.

Kelantan

The Red Warriors goal has been certainly to stamp their authority as a dominated force in Malaysian football.

Kelantan have been picked up five wins, three draws and two losses so far in their Malaysia Cup campaign. Scoring a massive 25 goals which on average is 2.5 goals per-game and conceded 14 goals which on average 1.4 goals conceded per-game.

So Kelantan have no problem in scoring goals when required to. Main concern will be the defence.

Missing from the team will be the tank at the back Obinna. Who is serving a suspension after been shown a yellow card in the Semi-final at Kota Bharu

Kelantan predicted line up. (4-3-3): Khairul Fahmi, Nik Shahrul, Azizi Mat Rose, Farisham, Zairul Fitree, Shakir Shaari, Piya, Zairo Anuar, Indra Putra, Dickson Nwakaeme, Nor Farhan.

Pahang

Pahang during this calendar year under Dollah Salleh back in the Super-league have shown many what they are capable of. Finishing a respectable fifth in the league only a point behind Kelantan.

Pahang have been picked up five wins, three draws and two losses so far in their Malaysia Cup campaign. Scoring Scoring an impressive 20 goals which on average is 2 goals per-game and conceded 16 goals which on average 1.6 goals conceded per-game.

Same as as Kelantan they'll have no shortages of firepower up front. However the issue for Pahang over their leakage at the back have been lapse of concentration.

Pahang predicted lineup(4-4-1-1): Khairul Azhan, Jalaluddin Jaafar, Damion Stewart, Razman Roslan, Shahrizan Salleh, Amirul Zainal, Hafiz Kamal, Gopinathan, R. Surendran, Azamuddin Akil, Mathias Conti.

Players to Watch

Kelantan: Dickson Nwakaeme
Can the Nigerian increase his status with the Kelantanese faithful by bringing in another silverware? He certainly has the ability to do just that. Even since his introduction into the team, he has been enjoying and contributing a lot of goals with his key passes, assist, goals and overall team play in all competition this year.

Pahang: Azamuddin Akil
Azamuddin Akil will be the one pushing Pahang's attack tirelessly over the period of the Malaysia Cup Final. Don't be surpise if his name is on the score sheet for the Elephants during the final because he has the ability to do so. He'll undoubtedly enjoying himself in this year's season domestic curtain closer.

Wild Cards to consider:

Kelantan: Ahmad Fakri Saarani
Most of his substitution appearance so far this year have been very fruitful and positive for The Red Warriors. He might make a few silly misplace passes, but he will pour his heart out for the team in order to get the win. He has been a very improved player over the years. Can you can see why the Kelantan management and coaching staff have so much faith in him in the coming foreseeable future.

Pahang: Fauzi Roslan
Pahang's fox in the box has been a household name since the opening match of the Super League against Johor Darul Takzim. However his form this year have been somewhat of a start and stop over the months. Only aged 25 he has more than enough time to show his true qualities in the upcoming years for the elephants. In the second leg semi-final against Sarawak he came off the bench to score a header that booked Pahang a spot in the final. Maybe he could do the same against Kelantan. But this time scoring the winner?

Conclusion.

Looking at the stats and players you can argue the Kelantan have the slight advantage of being the more experienced team in this final. However you can't ignore Pahang's drive they'll push on until the final whistle. They'll prove much to handle for Kelantan in this exciting Malaysia Cup Final.

All in all, let's all hope for an intense, exciting and friendly Malaysia Cup Final competition between the two football loving teams from Pantai Timur.

What to expect real soon.

Deeply apologise for the lack for post. Been heavily involve with my other works. However I have written tons of drafts on Malaysian football. Topics include Kelantan's 2013 season and beyond will post after the Malaysia Cup Final. K. Rajagopals stats record along with coach OKS record with Harimau Muda as well. Honestly think that stats does tell us the truth when it comes to sports. It's an interesting factor. Another post is on JDT, Pahang, ATM, Sarawak and Selangor how these clubs will challenge for an AFC Cup place next season. As well as why it should be a priority for Malaysian clubs to raise their AFC coefficient so we can get more teams from here to enter the competition.

Realistically, if we could keep developing our football like this with the help of experience and high qualified coaches, in no time we'll see a Malaysian club in a Final of the AFC Cup. However in the next few seasons realistically Semi-Finals should be the priority. Set the bar higher.

Will post new posts and articles soon!

AFC Cup, Oh AFC Cup!

AFC Cup round of 16 knock round phase Final Score: Kelantan 0-2 Kitchee.

Disappointed but we have to accept this as Kitchee were the better side.

Malaysian teams in general still have a long way to go to reach a final of the AFC Cup competition. Overall in this campaign there were a lot of positives, both teams Kelantan who just played and Selangor who will play tomorrow. Have shown we are no pushovers in the group stages of the competition.

It seems within two years of being in the competition, Malaysia is getting a firm grip on things. Three teams have entered, Kelantan, Terengganu and Selangor have entered and qualified for the following round. That's progress. Now it's time to take a further for the future.

FAM needs to do more in accommodation the teams who enter the AFC Cup by making the local league fixture list much more breathable. The three teams have struggled to meet up with congested fixture demands.

Kelantan have suffered quite badly in the scenario above. While Selangor had to come from behind to obtain qualification to the next round. Our league fixtures needs to branch out further. 12 teams in the league is not good nor healthy for the clubs in those competition. Expansion is needed, not to 14 but to 16 teams. We badly need that. 30 Games within the course of 8 Months with FA Cup on the side and the Malaysian Cup as a post season competition. Why not?!

Only way to improve our national team is via a competitive big league.

Investors the clubs needs to attract investors to improve the teams training facilities, youth academies, view-ship and etc. I'm sure there are Malaysians or non-Malaysians highly invested to want to invest in our teams and league to be better in the south east asia region.

In the end, it's a step in the right direction for the teams with improvements to win the competition is badly needed.

Tomorrow Selangor will determine if there's a representative from Malaysia in the quarter-final of the AFC Cup. The furtherest a Malaysian team went is as far as the Quarters, let's keep it that way!

Support our local Malaysian football!

FINALLY!

Sorry to everyone! We have been missing in action since the qualifying game back in March. WE ARE BACK. FIRST POST SINCE THAT. Will be about ways FAM can help teams pursue AFC Cup Glory!

We came. We played. We got three points.

Final Score: Malaysia 2-1 Yemen. We came. We played. We got three points.

National Football Team Head Coach K. Rajagopal will be sleeping much better after Malaysia's win against Yemen. The three points will be a much need boost for our campaign to qualify for the 2015 Asian Cup.

When the starting eleven was announced, many were surprise for the inclusion of Wan Zack Haikal who was thought to be injured prior to the game. Nonetheless his inclusion to the starting line up was a huge boost especially for his former Harimau Muda captain and team mate Mahali Jasuli.

Malaysia started pretty decent in the early stages of the game. Until Yemen took a chance on our loose defensive pass which they scored 1-0. It got really nervy for the Malaysians after that. But then the momentum shifted to Malaysia. Mahali's overlapping run and cross caused trouble in the Yemen penalty box which lead to Azamuddin Akil scoring the equaliser. Game on 1-1 on the 26th minute.

Mahali just minutes later almost got another one for the home side. After that it was back and forth between routine saves from both goalkeepers until half-time.

The second half begin with both teams being cautious early on. But Malaysia was determined to earn the three points. It's seemed the Yemen's 2nd half game plan was to catch Malaysia on the counter almost game to fruition on a couple of occasion.

Up steps the second half substitute Khyril Muhymeen on came and headed in the winning goal! The Malaysian fans went crazy!

2-1 it remained until the final whistle.

The chemistry between Wan Zack Haikal and Mahali Jasuli was indeed lovely to watch from the stand. Both players understanding each other's playing style very well. These two players will be Malaysia's poster boys on the right hand side for many years to come. Watch out Dani Alves and Lionel Messi!

Safiq Rahim deserves some credit, he did very well for the team during the game. Same goes to K. Gurusamy he did well do hold the midfield restricting the opposition to the flanks.

Norshahrul needs to find his goalscoring boots real fast. But his ability to open up space and assist his teammates was valuable to the cause.

Malaysians get to see Badhri Radzi and Safiq Rahim partnering up for the first time even it's only for like 12 or so minutes. Piya added a much needed composure to the Malaysian side after grabbing the lead. Helping to see out the favourable score line of 2-1 to Malaysia.

I Love The Scoreline

Post Saudi.

International Friendly Final Score: Malaysia 1-4 Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia exploited major defensive frailties on the left hand side of Malaysia's defence 2-0 in the first half.

K. Rajagobal rang in the changes at the start of the 2nd half. Which helped in the cause with subs Safiq Rahim scored via a Hanaf Mamat lay-off.

Pushing to get the equaliser Malaysia were caught off from the break with a two late goals. It finished 1-4 to the visitors at the Shah Alam Stadium.

So what were the positives?

-Well Norazlan had the chance to impress and prove his worth. With this development I'm expecting a very healthy competition for the number 1 jersey. All three goalkeepers we have are indeed quality.

-Fahdli Shas, Zubir and Mahali are our currently capable defenders. Aidil was at fault for not closing down for the 3rd goal.

-Gurusamy is the answer for our defensive midfield situation. Shakir was slow and poor. His key attributes of positioning and passing let him down tonight.

-Khyril had a shocker tonight. Maybe Asaruddin contributed that.

-Amri Yahya was pulling the strings in the attack Norshahrul was only decent his decision making was a let down.

-Ashari and Gopinathan added some flair in the attack and were coming with a purpose.

-Azamuddin Akil tactically he is the best player who sticks to his job of tracking back went Mahali is bombing forward. But he needs to take risks to help the team to get a goal.

-Hanaf Mamat showed real intelligences when he came on for Norshahrul.

the big game vs Yemen:

Goalkeeper: I don't mind who starts for this one both Norazlan and Apex are fine goalkeepers in my book.

Defenders: Mahali, Shas and Zubir must start the game. The defender to partner Fadhli is gonna be Aidil I feel as we all know K. Rajagobal. If it were me and if he's fit it'd be Amiridwan or Nik Shahrul.

Midfield: Gurusamny must sit in front of the back four. He is such a natural defensive midfielder after Gary Steven Robbat who is with Harimau Muda A. It'd be interesting if the boss picks a Piya-Safiq combo.

Wings: Ashari and Gopinathan both came on the Saudi game very well. Their bag of tricks can prove vital against Yemen.

Forward: Amri and Norshahrul both very good both must understand each other more to create chances.

Who to come on if all else fails:

-Alex! When out back is against the wall Mr.100% will help us out!

-If Wan Zack is fit enough to come on as a sub why not. Show us why FC Ryukyu signed you!

-Piya-Safiq whoever starts and not doing well please replace the one who started the game regardless if it's Piya or Safiq.

-Kunalan if he enters the squad late he's pace can help us out. Yemen are a slow team according to my Arab football friend.

We must fill up the Stadium this Friday! Come on Malaysia!

Stadiums.

As we all know our next two Malaysian games will be held at the Shah Alam Stadium. Many fans are quite disappointed with the decision to have the game at Shah Alam including myself. To the simple fact we have created more national football history at Bukit Jalil.

Back in January, I planned to do a short video documentary called a 'A night at Bukit Jalil.' It's a simple idea of showing what it is all about. Malaysians coming together to support the national team in one huge voice of support. So this plan will have to be delayed until we host games at Bukit Jalil.

Regardless I will be at Stadium Shah Alam on both occasions, the friendly versus Saudi Arabia and the all important group game vs Yemen.

Malaysian stadiums, whoever had the luxury of going know what it feels like. The atmosphere is always uniquely Malaysian.

Just want to touch on how FAM, Stadium owners and people associated with the club can improve their stadiums:

1. Improve the PA System. I had a hard time listening to the substitutions made, time added on or important announcements. Need to find a way to improve the PA system at all stadium. I had this problem at Stadium MBPJ, Bukit Jalil and elsewhere.

2. The traffic flow must be organised by members of the police or rela or stadium officials. This is a big problem after full time. Especially people with their families trying to go home early.

3. Quality of Food must have standards and able to be sold at affordable prices as well. No need to explain here.

4. Public transportation must be easily accessible and extended on Match night's.

5. If possible have a section of the stadium dedicated to people bringing their families. Since a group of fans have made a section of the stadium as their own why can't people with their families have one. Again if this is all possible.

6. Improve the facilities around the stadium, i.e. gate entrance, parking spaces, toilet, the place of worship and other necessities.

Do increase the number of security personal. Also even though it's in their job to protect us. But do smile when the country score. That's all I'm asking.

That's it salam and take care!

MSL Round 10

Malaysia Super League Results.

Kelantan fell behind to a late goal in Singapore. Chances to regain the league is now dead in the water. Ambitions now should be to gain a spot place for next year's AFC Cup via winning either the FA Cup or Malaysia Cup.

While the big game at the Shah Alam Stadium, sees the host Selangor with ten-men defeated big spenders Johor Darul Takzim 4-1. The Red Giants now are red hot favourites to capture the league tittle. Questions will be asked about the Southern Tigers.

Adil Zafuan is a poor excuse of a defender. Simply not good enough. Safiq Rahim is only good at free-kicks nothing else. These two players shouldn't be representing our country. Simply not good enough if Malaysia wants to raise the bar.

Mahali, Amri Yahya, K Gurusamy, S. Kunalan, Nadriq, Norazlan Razali were really fantastic.

To sum it all up:

Round 8

Round 8 of the Malaysian Super League. Nine goals scored in 2 games, three goal-less draw and one game postponed.

Johor Darul Takzim and Felda United was a very cagey affair. I did view this game at the Stadium MBPJ. All I can say is that Felda United especially Mohammed Ghaddar felt robbed of all three points after a poor refereeing decision which benefited and save the Johor goalkeeper Zamir Selamat blushes. Abas Saad who was sitting in front of me even said it was a goal! Goalkeeper caught the ball, kicked it out, Ghaddar stood out a foot and the ball went in and the officials disallowed a legitimate goal.

I will try to find video that can illustrate what I saw.

The two games Terengganu vs ATM 3-2 last minute goal. Ashaari Shamsuddin announce his come-back after a poor 2012 with the all important goal to win it for the turtles. ATM may see this as a miss opportunity to increase the gap at the top.

Pahang vs Kelantan with the enjoyment of Dez Corkhill's commentating in English. This East Coast game was lovely indeed a 2-2 all draw in the end. Drama all-round with a red card, penalty, close calls and etc. 30 shots was taken during the game. Pahang will feel a draw is a fair result. While The Red Warriors felted robbed of three points with the late penalty. The Red Warriors fans said better a point than none at all. Couldn't agree more.

Round 7 Simplified.

Hotheaded Selangor, ATM composed, Kelantan find their rhythm, Johor Darul Takzim and LionsXII slug it out, N.Sembilan fight back, Pahang fall again. Malaysia Super League round Seven.

Return

"The 2013 Malaysian Super League Matches have returned."

Finally after a 3 weeks breaks, local football returns.

Tomorrow 15th Feb will feature:
-Terengganu FA vs Perak
- Lions XII Fc vs Pahang
-Selangor vs Kelantan

16th of Feb:
- Felda United vs PKNS
- Johor DT FC vs T-Team
- Negeri Sembilan vs ATM

Terengganu vs Perak will be the early affair of the evening. The home team looks to shake off a bad start to the season. After games they are rooted to the bottom of the Super Legue, this is not good for the 2011 runners up. Perak under Azraai Khor will look up to challenge for top honors.

Lions XII vs Pahang will an interesting one. Both teams will have the chance to prove themselves of their abilities to contest the top half of the league. Pahang who aren't being shy of getting goals as of late. While the Lions are the most defensively form team at the moment.

Selangor vs Kelantan, the tie of the round many say. Selangor who are at the top of the league have been free flowing. Their main concern has to be the goalkeeping department, Irfan Bakti has to make the right choice for who to start on goal to have a chance on winning this tie. Kelantan haven't been their usual self, they are lacking confidence in front of goal, but their midfield is the best in the league. Nik Shahrul and Obina will be players in the center of defense for Kelantan are players to watch for this game. While Amri Yahya will look to add to Kelantan's misery of retaining a hat trick of league success.

A Stadium Paroi Derby on Saturday sees Negeri Sembilan vs ATM. Negeri Sembilan are under not ideally located at the bottom. While Premier League champions ATM will continue mounting an assault on the league tittle.

Johor Darul Takzim will look to ease pass Tactician Peter Bulter's T-Team at Larkin.

Felda United's Mohammad Ghaddar will want to prove his worth for his new-employers when the team meets PKNS FC, who wont have their new controversial signing until April.

I will be at Shah Alam Stadium tomorrow witnessing the Selangor vs Kelantan. Do hope for a cracking game.

2015 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers: Game 1 vs Qatar - Review

The national team travelled to the Middle East for their opening game of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Qatar in Doha. Prior to the game, the Harimau Malaya were beaten by 2007 Asian Cup champions Iraq 3-0 in a so-called friendly.

At the Al-Sadd stadium, Qatar were 2-0 winners over the Malaysians. Malaysian viewers could only join the game in around the 20th minute due to broadcasting issues from the host venue. (Note: Qatar are the hosts of 2022 World Cup)

Match Analysis

As expected, Qatar were the dominant side throughout the game. They were quick, composed and out-muscling the Malaysians most of the time. The Malaysians did hold on for a goalless scoreline at half-time. 10 minutes into the second period, a fluke Ibrahim Khalfan free-kick put Qatar ahead and a goal deep into injury-time finished the Tigers off.

The Malaysian full-backs were poor. Asra and Reuben were easily outpaced by the Qatari players. They could not get a grip on the ball, losing it on the 2nd or 3rd touches. Reuben's positioning was woeful. He was caught napping on a number of occasions (He was at fault for the second goal). Asra misplaced a few passes as well. On the other hand, the two-centre backs were good. Aidil and Fadhli Shas were effective at the back, both thwarting the Qataris a number of times.

MSL returns!

Okay, a number of things happen while we were gone. We lost 2-0 to Qatar with a depleted attacking squad and the Malaysian Super League returns this Friday.

I'll be going to the Selangor vs Kelantan game on Friday and the Felda United vs Johor Darul Takzim FC next Friday. Will try to take photos for the blog.

Will write up MSL preview later.

Update

-Just to let you know I've recently join an independently run football website called www.tehtarikfootball.com as a contributor for local football news and opinions. I'll still be running this site with Vinod and future writers.

- On Nazmi Faiz, he hasn't touch his move on his Facebook page and twitter. Recently news broke out that he's getting paid 500 Euros for the past 6 months. If that was the case why didn't he go to the Malaysian embassy or contact FAM. I'm sure they could have helped out. There are a handful that sympathise with his recent news, while there are some are like Man-Up. I'll try to compile articles on this. Astro Arena's Hafizal Hamad just posted something thought provoking.

-The other day after watching a sports movie and while watching Manchester City vs Liverpool, I tweeted: "Would like to see a movie that deals with the issue with match fixing." Then BOOM! Match fixing scandal. Just the other blog post I posted 'Evening Chat.' I wrote quite a bit on Match-Fixing.

-Tomorrow is the big night Qatar vs Malaysia. Follow me kh4lilul if you want update on the game via twitter. Will be writing a post match after the game. Vinod will give his thoughts on the game as well on a separate post. Or joint post. We'll see.

Wonderboy.

Nazmi Faiz returns home after a very brief stint in Portugal. Partially all Malaysians are in a state of shock apart of the few who knew this move.

Background on Nazmi Faiz, he rose quickly up the ranks in the Harimau Muda set up. Coach Ong Kim Swee and FAM knew back than he has the potential to be one of best players in his generation. He is know for his technical ability, passing, vision and movement in the center of midfield. Was apart of the 2011 winning SEA games squad before making his move to Portugual to mid-table side SC Beira Mar, signing a 3-year deal back in May 2012.

Nazmi Faiz's move to Europe was seen as a joy for all Malaysians. Especially the up and coming younger one who idolized him in many ways. About a month ago he hit hot water via his twitter account because of some off the field issues.

Now he is back eith PKNS Selangor on a three year deal. Many thought yesterday (31 January) he will be back with Harimau Muda A for 6 months loan from his former parent club SC Beira Mar. Now it's not the case.

A lot of people smells something's fishy about this deal. Hopefully as the day goes by, more light will shed into this matter.

Malaysian Football Fans are wondering why? Many of us quite dumbfound of this decision.

The general verdict of this: Disappointed.

A friend said: "I''m very disappointed in Nazmi Faiz's decision to return. Kids and players all across Malaysia kill to have a chance like that. And he threw all of it away."

Handful are: "Interested to know what he has to say about this, alone with his own words no agents or advisors around."

"Nazmi Faiz was the first Malaysian to be in Fifa 13. Now he's gone thanks to Fifa 13's online update of teams."

Source: http://paulvi.nl/fifa/

To continue with the Fifa game, the above image just shows how good he could potentially be in Europe. Yes it's a game, but the data shows how good he can be.

That's all for now. Keep Calm and Rilek Fakri Saarani is still in Europe.

From Malaysia to the Arabian Peninsular

This post covers: Malaysia national team and Opening game opponents Qatar.

The Task

The Malaysian National Team's upcoming fixtures which are two away matches at the arabian peninsular. One of them is a warm-up friendly against 2007 Asian Cup champions Iraq in Dubai. And our opening group 2015 Asian cup qualifying match again 2022 World Cup host Qatar.

The Team News:

Injuries has hit the national team hard. A total of 9 confirmed out of the upcoming matches. While 4 reported to be carrying knocks or minor injuries according to a source.

So here are the list of players who reported for training and could be featured for the two games:

Goalkeepers:
1. Khairul Fahmi
2. Norazlan Razali
3. Farizal Marilas *

Defenders:
1. Fadhli Shas
2. Aidil Zafuan
3. Asaruddin Putra
4. Amiridzwan Taj*
5. K. Reuben
6. Mahali
7. Faizal Muhammad
8. Nik Shahrul

Midfielders:
1. Shakir Shaari

4. Amri Yahya

Total of 23 players.

(*Carrying a minor Injury)

Looking at the squad the boss could be saying there is a lack of firepower with the noticeable absences of Safee, Mat Yo and Wan Zack. Fauzi Roslan and Khyril could step up for Malaysia and grab this opportunity to shine. Amri Yahya could provide that bit of experience and spirit up front for Malaysia. There's a rumor going on that Amirul Hadi Yahya could be called up in the last second to fill up the striking department.

Shakir looks to stamp his slot in the defensive midfield role after showing a good performance for Kelantan lately. Noticeably for Malaysia during the AFF Suzuki Cup. Ashaari Shamsudin will be looking to break back into the national side after he had a bad season with Terengganu last year, currently he is in a above decent form. Shukor Jusoh eying to replace the number 8 who he replaced for Selangor this term. Norfarhan after having an impressive season last term and currently on form for Kelantan wants to have a crack of a starting position. There were worries of he might not make it due to injury, but photos emerge that he did train lightly with the team today. Pahang's talisman Azamuddin Akil will be looking to inspire Malaysia to get the results they need at the Arabian Peninsular.

In the defensive side, it looks business as usual. Amiridzwan and Nik Shahrul will be working extra hard this time around after being dismissed last time. The left-back position is an open slot as Zubir is out with an injury apparently. Versatile defender Nik Shahrul seems to be an obvious choice currently. Asaruddin Putra, Amiridzwan, Faizal Muhammad and K. Reuben will push Fadhli Shahs, Aidil and Mahli in training as the quartet will provide competition for a starting spot.

The battle between the two Selangor goalkeepers resulted in Norazlan Razali wining this round in a result of a call up. He will definitely be keeping Farizal Marilas and Khairul Fahmi on their toes. With the minor injury to Farizal Marilas, Khairul Fahmi is expected to take the gloves until Malaysia's number one during the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 recovers.

Tactically Coach K. Rajagobal will be restricted again due to the lack of firepower. The general opinion around the Malaysian supporters is that K. Rajagopal will go for a 4-5-1 formation. With the aim to at least to earn a point away and as well a good performance against The Maroons (Qatar's nickname.)

The Opponents

Qatar have only won 2 out of 7 outings, scoring 9, conceding 11 and keeping 3 clean sheets in 2012. Malaysia should be worry about native Hussein Yassen and naturalized citizen Sebastian Soria. Who can score goals for The Maroons. Defensively teams from the middle east will be very physically stubborn, which will frustrated the Malaysian fans and neutral football fans of wanting to see a game of football. So expected some frustrating moments, time wasting and 'injury-acting.'.

Preparations:

Malaysia pencilled in with a friendly with Iraq will be praying for an injury free game. As well as a positive performance and result against the Lions of Mesopotamia. If Malaysia can achieve that, fans can hope and pray Harimau Malaysia can get the result needed in Doha, Qatar on February 6th.

Training Camps

Both the National Squad and the Under-23 team are both at their respective locations preparing themselves for upcoming tasks. National team will be looking to achieve their target 2015. While Harimau Muda A begin their preparations for the upcoming SEA game where they'll be looking to make it a hat trick of gold medals.

Harimau Muda A, the team now is down at Australia for four friendly matches in Brisbane. Today (26th Jan 2013) they face their first opponents Gold Coast Sharks. After that there will be a remaining 3 matchs left in their Australian adventure. The young tigers will depart to face Myanmar later next month. In March 15th, they'll be off for five months at Slovakia playing 15 friendly matches.

All of this to build up experience and preparation for the 2013 edition of the SEA Games. Fans are confident in the head coach Ong Kim Swee in his methods to lead his young team to the goal for the second time during his stint. Via his official twitter account, we here deduct that head coach Ong Kim Swee usual stress to his team about the mental aspect of the beautiful game. Which is very welcoming. The head coach learnt that the hard way during the olympics qualifiers.

On to the National squad, the players called up are expected to link up at Wisma FAM later today. Over the week many injuries occurred to several players, such as Safee Sali, Norfarhan, Mahali and a few to name. It is confirm that Safee will miss the upcoming friendly and away qualifier game against Iraq and Qatar respectively. Many are keeping an eye on Mahali as he is a key figure of the Malaysian back four.

To add on the injury news, this is the second player claimed by the Shah Alam Stadium pitch. And one of a handful of player due to fatigue and overworked due to the Malaysian League and domestic club competition congested fixtures. Many fans call on the FAM to kindly review this, for next season.

Back to the national set up, many are skeptical about getting all three points away to Qatar. But there are calls for optimism, as last year our under 22 team beat their under 22 team in a 2-nil victory. Malaysians expect at least a point away would be enough to satisfy. A win would give Malaysians something to hope for. Either a win or a draw will be a good result to build on when the team continues another two matches at home in the middle of March against Oman and Yemen.

Malaysian fans remember fondly of facing teams from the middle-east. Due to the football-ing culture of time wasting, a few dirty tactics and ball in the box Don Revie tactics. It will be sweet to claim a few scalps during the qualifiers. To think about it Dirty Don did manage several side in the middle east maybe his philosophy influence the region with his dirtiness. Will do more research on that.

It is unofficial where our home qualifying game will be held. Majority of fans do want our home qualifiers to be held at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil. Here @ Padang Bola Sepak Malaysia we want Bukit Jalil!

Head Coach K. Rajagopal will be looking to answer his critiques wrong in the upcoming year. Hopefully King Raja learn his lessons from the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 edition, so that we won't repeat our mistakes and last the game for 90 minutes.

Waiting for the whole image.

MSL Review Matchday 5

The matchday 5 of the MSL began with an early kick-off in Kuala Terengganu where T-Team hosted the Lions. It was a drab game with scrappy play throughout 90 minutes. A late penalty by Badrul Hisyam Morris gave Peter Butler's team a 1-0 win over the Singaporeans, who slumped to their second loss of the season.

The match of the day was the clash between Perak and Selangor at the TLDM Stadium in Lumut where the referee garnered more attention for his controversial and poor decision-making earning the wrath of the fans and Irfan Bakti alike. Selangor lost Amri Yahyah to a dubious red card late in the first half but took the lead on 66 minutes via a Francis Forkey Doe stunner. Perak equalised nine minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty which was converted by another ex-Terengganu player, Abdul Hadi Yahya. Selangor could have won the game but Doe and substitute Wan Hoesne failed to convert their chances.

In the East Coast derby, Pahang crushed Terengganu 3-0 in Kuantan with to take them to the top of the table with 12 points, two ahead of ATM and Selangor. Top scorer Fauzi Roslan opened the scoring before Hafiz Kamal got a brace to send Terengganu to the bottom of the table.

Champions Kelantan were held to a goalless draw at home by Negeri Sembilan. The scoreline reflects the toothless attack of the Red Warriors after the departure of their attacking players, notably Mat Yo and Mohammed Ghaddar. Marlon Alex James and Shukor Adan scored to help ATM secure a 2-0 win over Felda United while big-spenders Johor Darul Takzim etched out a 3-1 win on the road over PKNS FC.

After 5 games, Pahang lead the pack with 12 points with ATM and Selangor on hot pursuit with 10 points each, with ATM ahead of the Red Giants on goal difference. Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu remain at the bottom edge of the table, still winless.

The MSL will take a break to make way for the FA Cup and the international week, where Malaysia face Iraq in an international friendly in Dubai before taking on Qatar in an Asian Cup qualifier in Doha.

MSL Review Week 4

The week 4 of the MSL kicked off on Friday afternoon with Felda United holding champions Kelantan to a scoreless draw at home while T-Team suffered a stunning 0-3 defeat to PKNS in Kuala Terengganu. Undoubtedly, the match of the day pitted Johor Darul Takzim with promoted ATM. It turned out to be a thrilling game with both teams ending 90 minutes with two goals apiece. All the goals were scored in the first half with Amirizwan Taj giving ATM the lead before Daniel Guiza levelled the scores. Irwan Fadli Idrus curled in ATM's second, reminiscent of his goal against Kelantan in the Charity Shield. Again, Johor equalised with Mat Yo getting on the scoresheet.

On Saturday, Pahang finally lost their unbeaten record when they were beaten 2-3 by Selangor in Shah Alam. Selangor stormed into a 2-0 lead with Amri Yahyah getting the goals. Pahang pulled a goal back through their own hotshot, Fauzi Roslan. Former Selangor rightback, Razman Roslan equalised from the spot to tie the scores 2-2 at half-time. Azamuddin Akil had a goal disallowed before super sub Ramzul Zahini Adenan getting the winning goal 10 minutes from time via a brilliant header. Meanwhile, Lions edged win less Terengganu 2-1 at home with Safuwan Baharuddin and Shafiq Zainal getting the goals after Jean Emmanuel Effa Owona had given the Turtles the lead. Along with Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan remain winless in the league after Azraai Khor's Perak edged them 1-0 on his return to Paroi. The goal was scored by Mohd Failee Ghazali in the dying embers of the game.

After 4 games played, three teams are tied at the top of the table with 9 points. Pahang lead on goals scored followed by Selangor and Lions. Negeri Sembilan remain bottom with one point and still without a win. Marlon Alex James of ATM and Pahang's Fauzi lead the goalscoring chart with 4 goals apiece.

I came across a few statements making rounds in the Selangor's Fan Group in Facebook with the fans criticizing the Astro Arena commentator, Azlan Johar. Apparently, Azlan has been giving opinions and comments about Selangor's weaknesses and criticizing them rather than the game as a whole. Personally, I feel that only Zainal Abidin Rawop and Shaukei Kahar are the best commentators in Malaysia. Azlan Johar may be a former player but his comments and opinions are not relevant and seemed off-track.

An Evening Chat.

Credit to the photographer.

I had an interesting conversation with a close friend of mine earlier this evening. He is a fan of Selangor FA and Malaysia Football in general since the 1970's. We both talked the past, present and future of this sport. The ups and down of the beautiful game. There were many interesting points came up here and there as well.

He told me back in the day late 1980's early 1990's period it was a bad time for Malaysian football in general. Bribery cases appeared left and right, players selling games and so on. Back in the day there was this goalkeeper who played for Selangor FA who was under no pressure, punched the ball into the opponents path and scored. Resulted Selangor losing a final and that goalkeeper being banned. Another story he told was a top player didn't play up to his level was caught red handed with the money to sell the game was inside his football boots.

Today there are still stories of players selling games but not as much as those days he said. Today it's much more tamed and controlled better according to my friend. So there is something right going on.

I realized that back in the day gambling companies used to sponsor the sport. Now, no more due to many new regulations. He said bookies were the major players. They are willing to go some extreme lengths to fix matches. There might be some among us. Current Lions XII coach V. Sundramoorthy can tell you that personally, my friend said. I personally never knew this. Forgive me for not knowing this til today.

Back in the day V. Sundramoorthy was for one of our Malaysian teams. During an away game at the team hotel, he was attacked by several men keen to take him out of an important game. He was hit on the leg but manage to evade his attackers thanks to his teammate. I'm clearly shocked listening to this. The only thing good came out of this is the humanity of his teammate to help him out and his safety. Some people in this world do go to extreme length to do bad things in the name of money.

I tried to google all of the stories only a few came up, I need to dig deeper to know how bad it was back then. Just to know if we have progressed since those days. I'll post them up if I find them.

During the 70's, 80's and early 90's there were a handful of foreign coaches coached our national team. But due to the improper conduct of upper management. Our name was or stilled trashed by those above across the world. Then how to maju lah? When upper management disturbs the current work of the head coach or team manager and players.

Melaka FA a long time ago according to my friend was a team down on their luck. Until a head coach steps in and somehow guide the club into a respectable upper mid table side. Until 'those people' came down to the field and disturbs the rhythm of the dance. These people are 'associated' with the club, when they are winning it seems. The head coach well he quitted the club due to those people who disrupt his work.

Lee Chong Wei, Nicol David and Azizul Awang. What makes these three athletes similar to each other? Other than their success in their respective sports. No one gets other than they themselves gets involve in how they play their sport. In football, there are people from the above management who gets their hands into the cookie jar and mess it all up for everyone.

Let the coaching staff, players do their jobs and let football club management do their jobs, respectively.

The day Football Association of Malaysia moves forward is when they cut ties which those who are currently up there in the hierarchy.

Ownership in Malaysia Football Clubs are an interesting issue here in Malaysia. I believe that we should follow the German way. i.e.

"The basis of the German model is the 50+1 rule whereby a minimum of 51% of the club must be owned by club members. This still allows for considerable investment opportunities for private business to invest while preventing them from having overall control of the direction of the club. A Bundesliga club board is made up of delegates selected by the shareholders. That way the supporter membership associations or Mutterveiren have a direct say on the management of the club." via http://pitchinvasion.net/blog/2010/03/11/fan-ownership-the-bundesliga-model/ do take a look at it.

In that article the writer explains the pros and cons of this system. As a whole it's benefits does outweighs the loss.

My friend told be back in the late 1980's Kuala Lumpur FA was one of the top clubs, the third team to have won the Malaysia Cup back to back three times and other domestic tittles. The club was owned by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur who had a lot of money to spend back then. And was quite influential in raising the profile of KLFA. But over the decade the money dried up and eventually fans weren't interested any more due to results and now they are facing trouble times. Recently after 32 games they just won their 1st game, after 32 matches. He told me back than it was harder to get into the KL team than the national team, imagined that.

The debate of ownership of clubs is debatable. All in all management of the club should always evaluate the club's long term sustainability.

Well that's it for now.

Will want to write about on how to get the young generation hooked on our football. WE NEED FANS!
